Chemistry Futures Fund
Friday 28th Aug Empowering the next generation of chemists and biotechnologists to shape a sustainable future. From climate change and clean energy to health and sustainable materials, chemistry and biotechnology sit behind many of the breakthroughs a better world depends on.
The Chemistry Futures Fund is an initiative of Swinburne's Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology, driving innovation and excellence through research and education. Swinburne ranks among the top 1% of universities worldwide — and the top 25 young universities globally — and this fund helps ensure our chemistry and biotechnology graduates leave equipped with the knowledge, skills and opportunities to make a lasting contribution to science, industry and society.
The Fund honours the vision and generosity of the late Dr Peter Havlicek — a distinguished Swinburne chemist whose research into sustainable chemical processes advanced environmentally friendly industrial solutions, and whose dedication to mentoring inspired curiosity and excellence in his students — together with his father, Vaclav. Through the Peter and Vaclav Havlicek Trust, that legacy lives on in the students and discoveries this fund supports.
Your gift invests in the people and the discovery that move an entire field forward — bringing people and technology together to build a better world.
The Chemistry Futures Fund supports the field through three priorities:
Chemistry Futures Scholarships — open chemistry and biotechnology to talented students regardless of financial background or educational pathway, removing barriers to study while attracting the brightest and most ambitious students to Swinburne.
Laboratories and Equipment — state-of-the-art labs and instruments that let students apply theory in practice, push the boundaries of research, and graduate job-ready for industry and academia.
Leadership Development — global conferences, sabbaticals and exchanges for students, Higher Degree by Research candidates and researchers, building the networks and skills of the next generation of scientific leaders.
You can also choose to fund a named prize, celebrating excellence and innovation among our future chemists and biotechnologists.
